day one

Today, I thought of the idea of starting a website called Hipsterazzi. I was having a meeting at Inteligensia with the Silverlake-dwelling members of the Icelandic group Steed Lord and director / photographer / all-around-awesome-dude Noa Shaw. As Noa and I sat there chatting and waiting for the Steeds, we saw a camouflage Marine truck roll by with fully-uniformed (helmet and all) soldiers in it. What the fuck is that kind of thing doing in the neighborhood? Anyway. While sitting there watching Noa and the Steeds vibe it out and get familiar with each other, I said hey to Seb (XL Records man in LA), who recently held a listening session (yes, this dude actually pulled a significant group of LA music industry folks to come over to the Eastside in the early afternoon on a weekday to sit calmly and quietly (except for the ocean of clicks on Blackberrys and iPhones)  and listen to an entire album all the way through) for the new Gil Scott-Heron record (which, by the way, is one of the most progressive and impressive “spoken word soul” albums I have heard in a long time);  and, I also spoke briefly on the phone with a promoter in Vegas about an upcoming afterparty we had recently confirmed for Semi Precious Weapons (read: amazing contemporary NYC glam-rock) at Beauty Bar for one of the nights of the Monster Ball tour they are currently on with Lady Gaga and Kid Cudi. I was surprised that I didn’t see Joshua Fisher (Heart) at Inteligensia because dude basically lives there. Anyway. Sooo, Noa and Deedee (total sweet-heart friend of Steed Lord and fellow viking) had to comment on the fact that I was wearing flannel and Ray-Bans and rolled up on my fixie; and basically that I was such a typical hipster in uniform. My recently renewed interest in documentary/nightlife photography pointed me to the idea of this site. So, I came home and put it together using WordPress and Google Apps. I have some ideas. We’ll see what happens…and it is kind of silly to me that this first post doesn’t actually include any pictures since my whole vision with this site was for it to be photo-centric (and also to enlist a posse of fixie-riding, flannel-wearing, irony-obsessed Eastside kids to roam the streets of the hood snapping pics of  bands, artists, gigs, galleries, pubs, coffeeshops, etc.), but whatever, it is day one, no need to beat myself up about it…
